Northern Lights on Christmas Cards

Christmas Card with Northern Lights - TPC Magazine

I live far north in Norway. When the sky is clear we can see the Northern Lights almost every night during the winter. This year I have been inspired by the Northern Lights when making my Christmas Cards.

  • Type of project: Card
  • Occasion: Christmas
  • Style: Clean and Simple, Elegance
  • Techniques used: Embossing, Die Cutting
  • Main color: White

I started out with decorating media ink papers with alcohol ink. Then I die cut some windows and placed the decorated paper inside them.

I wanted my cardbases to be white, but as just plain white seemed a bit dull I did run white cardstock through embossing folders using a cutting machine. I used these as a mat (almost a wall) for my cards.

The text on the first card says “Christmas Hug” and I have decorated it with snowflakes and some white flowers. In the window I added gesso as “Faux Snow”. I wanted to keep it quite simple to let the window with the “Northern Lights” stand out.

The window on this card resembles a church window. I have added a button with “24” on it. Here in Norway we open the presents on Christmas Eve December 24th.

This card is decorated with flowers, bling, a big snow flake and a charm.

The last card I am showing you has gold details – which I think is very nice against the white base. This card is a bit more decorated than the other ones and I have decorated it with paper straws, flowers, a mitten and die cuts. The text says “Let it snow”.

Making Christmas Cards with Northern Lights on them was both inspiring and fun. Maybe I did manage to inspire you to add something from your local environment on your Christmas cards this year? If you do I would love to see it. Send an e-mail to editor@thepapercrafting.com
