Paper Talk with Kelly from Texas, US

For Kelly paper crafting is about keeping the memories. When Kelly was a child her family moved around a lot and she had very few photos to look back on as an adult. She did not want her children to have the same regrets.

Who are you? Can you tell us about yourself?
Hello!  My name is Kelly Pyron and I reside in Texas.   I am married to my wonderful husband, Keith. Together, we have 4 children and 4 grandchildren and one very feisty puppy dog.  I was an elementary school teacher for many years and now I am an elementary school librarian… which is the perfect job for me because I LOVE getting students excited about reading!

When did you start with paper crafting? Why did you start with paper crafting?
I started scrapbooking when my youngest child was born in 1998.  As a child, we moved around a lot and I had very few momentos/photos to look back on as an adult.  I didn’t want my children to have the same regret as adults, so I began memory keeping/ scrapbooking.

What is the best thing about paper crafting?
Other than having albums filled with precious memories, I really love and need the creative outlet.

Have you made any mistakes when papercrafting and would you like to tell about it?
When I first started memory keeping, I would compare my work to others.  It made me unhappy that my projects didn’t look as good as someone else’s.  I have learned that the saying “Comparison is the thief of joy” is very true! I have learned to be find joy in the process and content with where my creativity leads me.

What kind of paper projects do you make?
My first love has always been scrapbooking/memory keeping.  However, I also enjoy art journaling, travelers notebooks, junk journals, and basically anything else that involves pretty paper!

How often do you craft?
During the school year, I craft mostly on the weekends.  I am usually pretty tired when I get home on work days.  During the holidays and summers, I craft nearly every day!

Can you describe your style? Have your style changed since you started?
I would say I have a very eclectic style.  I appreciate all styles and try not to box myself in.  I like to try it all!  A few aspects of my style that always stay consistent,  is that I like LOTS of layers, texture and dimension!

Show us 3-5 of your favorite projects.

What inspires you?
I have been very inspired by 49 and Market products.  Recently, I was in a bit of a creative slump and purchased a few of their beautiful designs.  These gorgeous new products really sparked a new excitement in me to create!

Can you mention five products/tools you cannot live without?
Art Glitter Glue (It is the perfect Paper-crafting glue, in my opinion!)
Bone Folder (I use it all the time!)
49 and Market Filmstrips ( These are so fun and versatile to use!)
49 and Market Tickets (Again, so versatile and so many beautiful colors to choose from!)

What is on top of your wish list right now?
I would love the new Pink Gemini Jr. die cutting machine.

Who in the paper crafting community would you like to meet «in real life»? Why?
Katie Pertiet!  She is a graphic designer that I have admired for years.  She is the designer for 49 and Market products. Uh, have I mentioned that I am a bit obsessed with their products?  LOL!

Can you describe your craftroom?
Can you tell what my favorite color is? LOL!  My favorite thing about my craft room is that I have a sit-down desk and a stand-up desk.  My least favorite is that there never seems to be enough storage room!
