Midweek Media-Embossing Folders and Sprays

Hello creative people! For this week’s Midweek Media, I wanted to share two quick cards I made with a combination of sprays (some powders) and my embossing folders and I hope you give this a try.

For those of you who may not have had a chance to try embossing folders, they are plastic folders that you put a piece of cardstock in between and then run through your die cutting machine. This puts pressure on the folder which bends or folds the paper permanently. This leaves a cool texture behind. To make sure that your cardstock doesn’t rip or tear the cardstock, it is recommended that we mist the cardstock with with water to make it more pliable.

I decided to substitute in sprays for the water (or adding powders and then spraying with water) before running the card through the embossing folder and die cutting machine which allows the paper to not tear while being embossed as well as adding some color and shine!

Card #1

This first card was sprayed with a blue shimmer spray. I did add a little bit of powder (which is what gives the card the pops of pink or purple on the top layer. I also splattered some gold watercolor onto the base as well. I added more shine through the use of some sequins and metallic cardstock for the matte layer and the die cut sentiment. I decided to add a couple colors of the metallic cardstock die cuts to add some more color and to add some interest to the card. I also ink blended around the edge of the top panel with a blueish-green ink.

Card #2

This second card was created by adding powder to the dry panel before spraying it with water. Again, I added some gold watercolor, sequins, and metallic cardstock for the matte layer and the die cut sentiments for more shine.

What I really loved about both of these cards is that they are super quick but look really classy! These two cards were created in the amount of time it usually takes me to make one. The thing that took the most time was waiting for the sprays and water to dry! I hope you give this combination of sprays and embossing folders a try!
