Hello Again…and welcome to Renee’s Corner. Today I have a really simple, fun card for you. It is masculine in its design and colour tones and it was inspired by a leafy fabric design I came across on Dribbble. Though it looks simple, this background required my concentration….. firstly while I was stamping and secondly, while I was colouring.
How the background was created
The background was created by stamping multiple times using a leaf stamp by Wplus9. Tim Holtz’s Tonic Studio Stamping Tool really helped with this part of it as it allowed me to position the stamp exactly the way I wanted it to be. As you can tell, I often changed direction every time I stamped to add interest to the design.
The next step
Next I added colour to the leaves using Ohuhu and Copic markers in grey, dark blue grey and light blue grecopicy. I kept alternating the colours…so that leaves of the same colour would not end up close to each other. It took a while to complete this step but it was worth it as you see the pattern emerging….
The pattern comes alive
I then drew yellow circles freehand, to represent a type of fruit as I added a touch of warmth to the background whose colours were predominantly cool. Now the pattern comes alive….. and even though the yellow is vibrant …it does not overpower the design or feel.
The greeting
The greeting I chose, came from the stamp set “Make yourself at home” by My Favorite Things. It says “Wish you were here”. This makes an excellent card for a long distance relationship, or when your partner/friend goes away on business or holiday.
Try it
I really enjoyed creating the background for this card …and I would love it if you would give this a try…..! See you soon.
