A Fanciful Birthday Card
Welcome back to Renee’s Corner. I have been on a short break so it’s been a while since my last posting……
Today I am back with an exciting card for you…a fanciful Birthday Card in celebration of my special month. The card showcases two styles; a simple gate-fold and a pop-up step.
Having a pop-up step element within a gate-fold card, creates a surprising feature for the recipient upon opening it.
Creating the “Step”
The “Step” is actually a 4” x 6” pre-cut and scored blank template by Crafter’s Companion, to which I added floral patterned paper in hues of peach, red, pink and green. This was then matted onto the inside of white card stock measuring 6” x 6”. I then adhered rectangular sheets of textured paper to areas not covered by the step card template along with the messages “Keep smiling”, “Be happy” and “Enjoy life’.
Making the Outside Pop!
Next, I worked on the outside of the card. I coloured a grey-scaled image of a flower basket by the artist “The Coloring Bookshelf” using Spectrum Noir illustrator markers. I tried to use markers in similar shades to the floral patterned paper on the inside for continuity.
Then I used a purple glitter marker to define the insides of the white flowers and a light blue marker, to add shadows around the white flowers to help them stand out. I brushed the other flowers with Spectrum Noir’s sparkle brush pen for an extra dose of dazzle. (Hope you can see the dazzling effect)
Next I glued it onto the front of the card and added the greeting “Happy Birthday!”
I really enjoyed designing this card and I am happy I get to share the process with you. Hope you like it!
Have a great day!
