Paper Project Of 2023 – Nominated In October

Each month we nominates a paper project for “The Project of the Year” in TPC Magazine. At the end of the year, we will have nominated twelve monthly projects, one of which will be elected, by TPC’s readers, as “Paper Project of the Year 2023”. Today we have the pleasure of presenting the nominated project in October.

The nominated paper project in October is a wonderful card made by Tia in USA. The reason for choosing Tia’s project is:

I love the theme and how the composition aptly fits the theme of the project.
The 3 D rendering of the wall showcasing the animals sticking out was quite creative!

Description of the project?
I am a design team member for Riley (the moose) and Company. These cards were all created based on a Funny Bone sentiment from their collection. Each card is a representation of me expressing that sentiment. There are 3 cards, I refer to them as “Monster Mash” “Animal House” and “Birthday Shenanigans”

How is the project created?
I like to sketch out card ideas. I may sketch 6 to 10 ideas for each sentiment and then choose my favorite sketches for the final cards. I also select my background papers before I color. It’s easier to select markers that match my papers than find papers to match my coloring.

Size of the project?
I use a variety of sizes. These cards represent  long fold A6 (4.5 x 6.25 inch); a Slimline card and short fold 5x7inch card.

What kind of materials are used?
My cards are a mix if stamped images colored with Copics, die cut images/shapes/words and pattern papers. I love to add dimension with foam tape too!

How long did it take to create the project?
Sketching my ideas saves me card assembly time. I am slow at coloring so overall my cards can take 1-3hrs to make.

What inspired you to create this?
My ideas come from my experinces and favorite things. When I read this sentiment and started thinking about all things Shenanigan related, I thought about the upcoming holiday-Halloween and my favorite song Monster Mash. I saw the Monsters outside on Halloween night creating Shenanigans.

Then the movie Animal House- a rowdy bunch of Fraternity guys and all the Shenanigans they get up to.

Lastly, preparing for a friend’s daughter’s birthday-we were up to Shenanigans!

I look for products I own or go shopping and create cards that express my ideas.

I have been a long time fan of Riley and Company, way before being selected for their design team. These cards were designed with products from their online store.
