Cardmaking – building a card

Cardmaking is probably the most popular kind of paper crafting. There are a lot of different styles to choose from. Some are beginners, and some have made cards for years. Even though I have made cards for years, I might be a beginner in a brand new style. Some times it is useful to push oneself outside the comfort sone, to learn more. In this article, you can get more inspiration in how to develop your card making skills.

Where do I start?

Kristina Werner is a very well known you-tuber when it comes to card making. In this video, she is giving you some good advice:

  1. Catalog good ideas. Use Instagram or Pinterest. If you choose to search pinterest or instagram, be vise about what you use as search words. The search word could be a specific collection, product, a technique or a person. When you have found your inspiration, use the colours, technique or sketch. Try not to copy the project, but rather change the colours, text or mirror it.
  2. If you want to use a specific product, or stamp set, try to think through different ways of using this. Draw sketches and plan it.
  3. Think trhough different ways to make cards. Make sketches, it is easy to forget.
  4. Play, and enter challenges. This is a good way to learn.
  5. Be exact and be dilligent with your project. Make sure your sides and corners are straight. Also make sure that things are centered (or think of the rule of three). If you want to show of a fantastic way to make a card, it all falls through if your background tilts.
