Paper Project Of 2023 – Nominated In December

Each month we nominates a paper project for “The Project of the Year” in TPC Magazine. At the end of the year, we will have nominated twelve monthly projects, one of which will be elected, by TPC’s readers, as “Paper Project of the Year 2023”. Today we have the pleasure of presenting the nominated project in December.

The nominated paper project in December is a wonderful calendar made by Lone in Denmark. The reason for choosing Lone’s project is:

“Firstly, it is a super good idea that brings joy to the recipient all year round. And the calendar’s motifs are so finely created with lots of imagination, aesthetics and attention to detail. I enjoy the fact that each motif is a small scene that Lone herself devised.”

Description of the project?
Christmas 2022 I gave my aunt a small gift which consisted of 5 different cards made with Lavinia Stamps, placed in a nice little box with a Lavinia motif on the lid. I had started making Lavinia cards 3 months before Christmas and had gotten SO excited about this elf/fairytale universe that I just had to own a lot of stamps so I could make my own Lavinia cards. My aunt sends a lot of cards over the course of a year, so I think she should have some unique cards that no one else had. My aunt was SO happy with these cards that she didn’t mind sending them, but wanted to keep them herself. I told her that of course she should send them, I could just make some more for her.

In Lavinia’s Facebook group, I had seen several people making calendars, and so I thought that it was an obvious idea for a new Christmas present for my aunt, because then she had all the nice motifs herself, and she didn’t have to give them away, but could look at them myself and enjoy them all year round.

How is the project created?
I had actually thought that I would make the calendar pages myself on my PC, but then one of my friends found an empty calendar that you could make yourself in a Tiger store in Denmark, and so I bought one of them instead. I looked for inspiration in the various Lavinia Facebook groups and in October I got started and it wasn’t until December that the calendar was finished. Some motifs took a few hours to make and others maybe 3-4 hours. The front, which is a little bigger, obviously took some time, as each individual feather on the owl is painted 3-4 times.

I think it was fun to find motifs for each individual season and some are probably hit a little better than others, but I also really wanted to have good variety in the motifs. I myself am most happy with the motifs of September, October and November.

Size of the project?
The calendar measures 11 3/4” x 8 1/4” and the fields where I have inserted my finished images measure 5 1/4” x 7 1/8”.

What kind of materials are used?
All stamps used for the calendar are from Lavinia Stamps. To stamp the motifs I use Versafine Clair, and for backgrounds and for coloring I use Elements, Distress Oxides, Faber Castel and Derwent pencils, soft pastel colors and pan pastels. For highlights, small details, snow etc. I use Sakura Gelly Rolls, Posca pens, Stickles, embossing powder and misc. different types of mica.

What inspired you to create this?
I love Lavinia’s universe and all the possibilities with these wonderful stamps. They have become my greatest passion, and when I sit with these stamps and my colors, I disappear into a magical world and forget everything around me. It is fantastic. Lavinia has definitely come into my life to stay and I’m constantly coming up with new ideas that I’m sure I’ll have to implement.
