Mix and Match Styled Cards

How to mix and match different patterns

Mix and match styles are a great way of creating interest as well as using your extra papers. Some of the pieces I used in this project were bits and pieces that I saved for a card such as this. I bounced off the shades in each piece to help the pieces coordinate.

A Blue and Yellow mix of paper

I first chose a lovely background of blue with yellow  and white floral paper and a floral image similar to the ones on the paper. Next I looked for scrap pieces that coordinated with the yellow in the background of the patterned paper and with each other. This lead to a mix of patterns …. floral, dots, glittery and plain yellow paper.

Mixing and matching the colours of our florals

How to colour your image to match the background

The floral image  is an aster flower from Kit and Clowder , coloured using prismacolor pencils in shades of yellow, blue and white to match the florals of the background paper.

Assembling all the pieces

After the colouring process, I begun assembling the pieces. First I created the card front with white card stock. Next I glued the floral background onto the card front. The yellow floral piece was next, followed by the strip of yellow and white dotted paper. Lastly, I glued the coloured image onto the plain yellow background and adhered it with double sided tape. I added the word “hello” for the greeting. This is a great card for a friend you haven’t seen in a while. It will help you to ease into a conversation.

Hope you enjoyed this mix and match of papers and colours.
