Midweek Media: Use what you have

Hello crafty people! As I started thinking about my project for this post, I reflected on Earth Day (celebrated in the United States in April), where we ideally think about lessening our impact on the planet. So I decided to make a card that used some scraps and some recycled materials (pink and white packaging as well as cardboard). I also decided to use some tools that I haven’t used in a while as well.

I usually make 2 cards for each of my posts, but there is a lot going on outside of card making this month, and so was only able to make 1 card.

To begin, I used a circular die with a fun triangular edge to die cut a piece of pink and white packaging paper. To mute the colors on the paper, I sprayed the paper with some pink shimmer spray and after it was dry, I ink blended around the edge of the die cut with pink in. Later, I splattered some bronze shimmer powder mixed with water onto the pink circular die cut.

Then I die cut a layer of vellum with a slightly smaller circular die from the same nesting die set and glued the vellum layer over the larger pink circle die cut.

I then pulled out some pink and green patterned paper scraps to die cut the pieces of the flower and then colored the die cuts with markers to help make the colors pop. After gluing all of the small flowers onto the large stalk and glued the whole thing onto the circular die cuts.

The sentiment was die cut with more of the pink patterned paper and some rose gold glitter cardstock scraps and glued the two layers together before gluing them onto the vellum die cut.

I then turned to a piece of cardboard and created a 4″ x 5″ panel with my paper trimmer. I then used some more of the bronze shimmer powder as well as green shimmer powder to paint the ridges of the cardboard before rubbing a brown pigment ink over the edges of the cardboard before using some old embossing powder to add a little color and shine over the cardboard.

After the cardboard dried, I glued the circular and flower die cuts to the cardboard panel. Pink and brown sequins were glued around the flower and the edge of the circle die cuts. A couple more scraps of glitter cardstock were punched with an old heart punch in my stash and were glued onto the lower left corner of the panel. Finally, the whole thing was glued onto a kraft colored A2-sized cardbase.
